Product Owner Software Modernization

As a Product Owner for Software Modernization, you will lead the vision and roadmap for transforming legacy applications and systems. Your role is critical in enabling agile release cycles, reducing technical debt, and implementing modern, robust software practices. You will empower teams to achieve autonomy by decoupling applications from legacy constraints and transitioning to microservices architectures, significantly enhancing the developer experience across the company. Additionally, you will oversee the rationalization team to ensure old applications are properly decommissioned after modernization.

• Translate strategic plans into team Objectives & Key Results (OKRs).
• Act as a servant leader, fostering self-organization within the team.
• Collaborate closely with stakeholders to facilitate a prioritized and focused way of working.
• Create and refine the product backlog, setting priorities and monitoring progress with Scrum Masters.
• Develop and implement strategies to decouple applications from legacy constraints, enabling agile release and test cycles.
• Guide the transition from monolith applications to microservices, fully owned by individual teams.
• Implement robust quality measures to modernize outdated applications and significantly reduce technical debt.
• Ensure seamless adoption and usability of new technologies/platforms delivered by infrastructure teams for developers.
• Create and maintain technology examples (paved paths) for AWS that align with Telenet standards and can be easily adopted by teams.
• Improve the developer onboarding experience, making it faster, more informative, and engaging.
• Oversee the rationalization team to ensure decommissioned applications are properly removed post-modernization.
• Establish and track KPIs and metrics to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of modernization initiatives.
• Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including other departments and vendors.

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• Extensive experience as a Product Owner or in a similar role in software development.
• Strong understanding of modern software architectures, including microservices and cloud-native applications.
• Technical expertise with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and modern development tools.
• Familiarity with Agile and Scrum methodologies.
• Strong leadership and management skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience in reducing technical debt and modernizing legacy systems.
• Experience in a large telco or telecom environment is an advantage.
• Fluent in Dutch and English; French is an asset.
