What is a product designer?

Product designers are in charge of scoping and designing new features for digital products. To do this they need a solid understanding of the market gaps and user needs to find the right features to work on.

With their market and user knowledge, they help define product goals and maintain the product roadmap (high-level overview of offerings and features for the next 6 to 12 months) as well as conduct user research and create visual interfaces and solutions that meet business and user expectations. They can minimize the risks of implementing poor designs and maximize gains by keeping the bigger picture in mind and keeping the whole team aligned.

A product designer covers more angles than a UX/UI designer or a UX researcher by monitoring the company/product offering in the market over time. They detect opportunities and expand the product offering to attract more users/customers but also to deliver more value to existing users.
