A frontend app developer converts mobile app designs (iOS and Android) made by a UX/UI designer and turns those into static app interfaces. Depending on the device (iPhone, iPad, Android phone, Android tablet) these interfaces dynamically scale up and down without issue.
In some cases both the frontend and backend development role might be shared. But this is becoming less common as apps increase in complexity.
Being a good frontend developer means having a great eye for detail, since you need to convert static UI designs into an app interface. You need to program the interface to as closely as possible represent the design. This isn't always easy.
Animations and interactions between different UI elements are also very important on mobile and and fall within the responsibilities of the frontend developer.
Once the interface has been created it can be handed off to the backend developer. Backend and frontend developers work together to make sure the final product represents the design created by the design team.
